Libor Teaonui Prokop – Navigator of Stars & Stories
In a world where the sky often feels distant, Libor Teaonui Prokop brings it within arm’s reach, guiding us, through song, story and science, back to a cosmos that once shaped the voyages of our ancestors.
Born in Pape’ete, Libor carries within him the convergence of cultures: Polynesian through his mother, Czech through his father. From this meeting of worlds emerged a man of many talents: musician, storyteller, and scholar. His journey, much like that of the ancient voyagers, is one of deep listening and long observation.
While trained in Western classical music, Libor’s soul is anchored in the oral traditions, rhythms, and ceremonies of Polynesia. He mastered a wide variety of traditional percussions, the didgeridoo, and most notably, the vivo, Tahiti’s ancestral bamboo nose flute, which he has dedicated much of his life to reviving.
He experiments fearlessly, up‑cycling materials, exploring new forms, yet always rooted in the instrument’s ancient role as bridge between human‑made rhythm and the ancestral pulse of Polynesia.
As a founding member of Haururū, a cultural association dedicated to safeguarding Polynesia’s sacred sites and oral traditions, Libor contributes deeply to cultural revitalization.
To meet Libor is to meet a living portal to ancestral wisdom. Whether he is performing, teaching, or sharing the stories written in the sky, it is always a joy to connect with him and be nourished by his quiet brilliance.
