Spotlight on The Tuamotu Archipelago

aStretching across the vast South Pacific, the Tuamotu Islands form the world’s largest chain of atolls, 77 in all, making them the most expansive archipelago of The Islands of Tahiti. Just an hour’s flight from Tahiti, the main jewels, Rangiroa, Fakarava, and Tikehau, await discovery.

At first glance, these atolls may seem alike, yet each carries its own soul, its own rhythm. Known as the “Faraway Low Islands”,  the Tuamotu are sanctuaries of white and pink sand beaches, turquoise lagoons, and infinite horizons. A place to slow down and sink into beauty and contemplation.

Composed mostly of ocean rather than land, the atolls are a diver’s dream. Their lagoons and passes teem with extraordinary marine life, offering world-class scuba diving and snorkeling for beginners and experts alike.

But their magic does not stop with the sea…

Legends whisper of the Mokorea, mystical beings said to live in Te Pō or the world of darkness. Shunning fire and light, they are believed to have carved intricate tunnels beneath the islands, surfacing only at night through hidden passages in the reef. Some say they could even travel between atolls through these secret corridors.

Myth or truth? The only way to know is to journey to the Tuamotu yourself…

How to choose the atoll and for which guest?

Here is a quick guide:
