Beautiful lagoon of Rangiroa

Rangiroa

Rangiroa is the largest atoll in Polynesia, the striking coloration of its immense lagoon grades from jade green through turquoise to deep violet.

Tuamotu atolls

About an hour’s flight from Tahiti, Rangiroa is notable for its magnificent light. It is the second biggest atoll in the world, with 240 motu (islets) and more than 100 hoa (channels).
There are several pearl farms, which play an important role in the islands’ economy. Coprah (dried coconut meat), tourism, fishing, winemaking, stringing shell necklaces are all activities that occupy the inhabitants of Rangiroa.
The villages of Avatoru and Tiputa sprawl lazily around their respective churches and harbors. Their passes make perfect spots for spectacular drift dives, especially the encounters with the ever-present sharks. Every dive is unique and has different surprises to offer, among them: Grey Reef sharks, Sea turtles, Humphead Wrasse, shoals of Barracudas, Manta Rays, Hammerhead sharks …..without forgetting the large and friendly dolphins that sometimes come to play!
An excursion to the blue lagoon - a huge natural aquarium, private sport-fishing charters, jig fishing, touring the vineyard and the atoll’s pearl farms, private cruises, all these unique activities are not to be missed!

some of the most impressive dives can be done in the two largest passes...

In Avatoru’s pass the drift dives are an experience to savor: the current carries you from the ocean into the lagoon. Accessible to all levels of certified diver, the dive begins in the middle of the pass, where you find several common sharks such as the Blackfin or Reef Whitetip, amongst a dizzying array of other fish species. It’s not uncommon to cross paths with a Manta Ray sifting the currents for food. The dive ends amongst the magnificent coral gardens inside the calm of the lagoon.
